The research report “MITHRIL: Malware classIfication THRough lIghtweight cnn and uniform sampLing”, carried out by colleagues Alessandro Stamerra, Vincenzo Paduano and Andrea Iannacone as part of the research activities envisaged by the Program Contract “Cybersecurity and SOC Product Suites”, was accepted for presentation at the international conference “ICECET 2026 – IEEE International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Energy Technologies”, which will be held in Rome from 6 to 9 July 2026, and will be published later
in the acts thereof.

The research, carried out as part of the activities envisaged by the Program Contract “Cybersecurity and SOC Product Suites“, proposes an innovative approach to the detection of 0-day malware based on the transformation of binary code into images and their subsequent analysis using AI techniques, prioritizing efficiency in terms of processing time and computational resources required without significantly penalizing the effectiveness of identification, thus allowing such functionality to be extended to edge apparatuses.

The activity was carried out exclusively by BV TECH staff from the CyberLab in Grottaglie and Rutigliano, demonstrating the skills and abilities developed in the use of computer vision techniques applied to the cybersecurity domain.
